Musical About Gypsy Rose Blanchard to Debut in London in 2026

Theater producers in London have released fresh details about a new musical parody inspired by Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

Parkinson Phillips Productions said that work began back in 2024 on Dypsy! The Parody Musical, which will debut on London’s West End sometime in 2026 with lyrics written by Samuel Parkinson-Philips for music composed by Rachel Blaquière.

Blanchard was at the center of what was one of the most sensationalized true crime stories in decades.

In 2016, when she was 17, Gypsy Rose and her boyfriend, Nicolas Godejohn, conspired to kill her mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Godejohn entered Blanchard’s Springfield, Missouri, home through a door Gypsy Rose had left unlocked, and attacked Dee Dee, 56, as she slept in her bed, stabbing her to death.

Godejohn pleaded guilty to Dee Dee’s murder and is currently serving life in prison.

Packed with high-energy comedy, witty satire, and original music that both lampoons and celebrates the society’s true crime obsession, the musical is said to be a biting satire on what separates entertainment from tragedy, according to an online description.

Throughout her childhood, Gypsy Rose was convinced that she had various ailments, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy and brain damage, and was told that she required a feeding tube and a wheelchair.

Dee Dee is widely believed to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, defined by the Cleveland Clinic as “a mental health condition where you pretend that someone within your care is sick when they aren’t.”

The saga was depicted in the popular 2017 Erin Carr documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest and the 2019 Hulu limited series The Act, in which Gypsy Rose was played by actress Joey King.

A 2019 a crime drama inspired by Gypsy Rose‘s case, Love You to Death, was produced for Lifetime, and starred actresses Marcia Gay Harden and Emily Skeggs. The names of the main characters were changed for the production.

Dypsy! will mirror acclaimed parody hits like Titanique and Oh, Mary!, using campy exaggeration and bold storytelling to reframe Gypsy Rose’s horrific saga.

“The story of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard continues to spark global conversation, raising important issues around psychological manipulation, medical abuse, and the condition widely known as Münchausen syndrome by proxy — clinically recognized today as Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another,” explained writer and producer Parkinson-Philips. “While Dypsy! is a parody told through satire, comedy, and theatrical absurdity, I believe it will open the door to greater understanding and shine a light on subjects that are often left unspoken.:

Parkinson-Phillips insisted that “by blending musical theatre with true crime, we’re creating something genuinely unique — and that’s incredibly exciting. If audiences leave both laughing and reflecting, then we’ve achieved exactly what we set out to do.”

Since her release, Blanchard, now 34, has divorced her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson.

She now lives in Louisiana.

Last year, Gypsy Rose became a mother, giving birth to Aurora. She shares the child with her boyfriend, Ken Urker.
