We’ve seen some legendary pairings when it comes to Carrie White and her mother, from Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie to Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson, or even Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Their conflict makes for some very harrowing moments. There’s no denying the wonderful chemistry between Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan in Carrie. They have a much different dynamic than we’ve seen in the past, with Margaret White caring for her daughter versus being scared of her. I think it’s definitely going to take people by surprise. My review of the entire first season should be out this weekend but until then, you can check out Chris Bumbray’s review of the first two episodes HERE.
I had such a blast talking with Summer and Samantha about their roles as Carrie and Margaret, respectively. Summer gets into the monologue that absolutely blew me away during episode 2, while Samantha discusses the similarities between her version of Carrie’s mother and Bev Keane from Midnight Mass. Summer also discusses the prom scene and how miserable it is to be covered in fake blood for days. It may look great on camera, but it’s a very sticky experience. You can check out the full talk in the embedded video above!
Next up – none other than Flanagan fave (and horror cult icon) Matthew Lillard, who plays Carrie’s principal, Henry Grayle, as well as Amber Midthunder as her sympathetic teacher, Rita Desjardin. Check it out:
And be sure to stay tuned for my interviews with creator Mike Flanagan and cast members Alison Thronton, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette.
Carrie plot:
Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
All 8 Episodes of Carrie are now streaming on Prime Video.
