Guy Ritchie’s mystery series Young Sherlock is getting some major changes while it prepares for season 2. Earlier today, Prime Video announced new cast additions for the upcoming season alongside a start-of-production video. However, the statement also bids farewell to two cast members from season 1.
According to Deadline, Joseph Fiennes and Zine Tseng will not return to Young Sherlock for the second season. Joseph Fiennes played Sherlock’s father, Silas Holmes, while Zine Tseng played Princess Gulun Shou’an. Numan Acar, who played Silas’s trusted fixer Esad Kasgarli in the first season, will also not return.
Fiennes’ and Acar’s departures line up with how the premiere season ended, as both characters were left in uncertain situations after the finale. Tseng’s exit is a bit more of a surprise, especially since she had previously expressed interest in returning. However, her role’s story reached a natural conclusion by the finale.
As Young Sherlock goes into production for a new season, new characters are set to join the series.
Who is joining the Young Sherlock Season 2 cast?
According to Prime Video, Sophie Skelton, Indira Varma, Olivia Williams, and Aidan Gillen have joined the cast for Young Sherlock season 2. While the new additions expand Sherlock’s world, the studio has not revealed any details of their roles in the upcoming season.
Skelton’s best-known performances include her breakout role as Brianna Fraser in Outlander, while Williams is known for The Sixth Sense and Dune: Prophecy. Varma has starred in Game of Thrones and The Night Manager, and Gillen is recognized for Game of Thrones and The Wire.
All four members will join Hero Fiennes Tiffin, reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes. Other returning characters include Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Natascha McElhone as Cordelia Holmes, Max Irons as Mycroft Holmes, Ravi Aujla, and Holly Cattle. Guy Ritchie will also return to direct the new season’s first episode while continuing as an executive producer.
Filming for Young Sherlock’s season 2 kicked off in late May 2026 in Palermo, Italy. The studio has yet to reveal the release date for Young Sherlock’s upcoming season.
