Lanterns star Nathan Fillion has shared his thoughts on Guy Gardner’s frequent appearances in the DCU. The actor reflected on why the character has been making frequent appearances in the franchise and how that could connect to future installments.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Fillion shared what it means for him as an actor to appear in multiple James Gunn DC projects. “To me, that means there’s a chance that maybe I’ll continue to be employed throughout my twilight years,” the actor joked. “That’s my hope, at least.”
Fillion said he liked the idea of Guy being “the connective tissue” in the DCU. “He’s the thread that weaves throughout the fabric of this universe,” he stated. “If you’re existing, if you’re a character in this universe, if you’re watching this universe, he’s in the back there somewhere. If you live in the DC Universe, you’re gonna you’re gonna be inundated with this guy… See what he did there?”
Fillion went on to add, “I think if we’re just kind of logically thinking it out, I think Guy Gardner is someone who embraces marketing. I think he understands the importance of a brand, the brand for LordTech, the brand of the Justice Gang, the brand of Green Lanterns, the brand that is Guy Gardner.”
What other DCU projects has Nathan Fillion been in besides Lanterns?
Nathan Fillion made his debut as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns, in James Gunn’s 2025 movie, Superman. The actor later reprised the role in Peacemaker Season 2. Fillion has also joined the upcoming animated series Mister Miracle (via Entertainment Weekly).
Most recently, Fillion returned as Guy in the HBO series Lanterns, which premiered on Aug. 16. The actor will appear in Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. These projects are part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Before playing Guy Gardner, Fillion voiced Hal Jordan in several DC Universe animated movies. These include Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, and The Death of Superman, among others.
