The V/H/S franchise is returning with a new horror anthology. Shudder has announced the next installment’s release date and the creative team. The upcoming film, titled V/H/S Mixtape, will make its debut on October 9.
Both veteran directors and some newcomers have come together to contribute various pieces for the film. These include Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists), David Moreau (Mads), and Renee Zhan (O Black Hole!). The latter’s segment will feature original creations from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Flying Lotus creates music video interludes, Tobias Forge contributes a music video, along with a heavy metal band GWAR appearance.
The official description reads that the film, “cranks the signature found-footage horror up to eleven with an electrifying new anthology where music and sound become the source of terror. United by a theme that explores the power of music, rhythm, and audio to haunt, possess, and destroy, the film blends cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter, and groundbreaking practical effects into one unforgettable mixtape of nightmares.”
How many V/H/S movies have there been so far?
The franchise started with V/H/S in 2012, and then it progressed into V/H/S/2, V/H/S: Viral, V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99, V/H/S/85, V/H/S/Beyond, and V/H/S/Halloween. The franchise has also grown through spin-offs and a mini-series since its inception.
V/H/S/Halloween from last year was the most-viewed exclusive premiere for Shudder and AMC+. It also made Shudder have its best subscription acquisition weekend for the year.
The upcoming film is produced by Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska. Meanwhile, Ben Ross and Rami Yassin will be the executive producers.
