Horror stories about the Hollywood casting couch have been around for decades. Directors notoriously bargained sexual favors for movie roles. But in a disgusting twist, a director has been accused of using the casting couch to lure underage girls. He was charged with child sex abuse. Keep reading for more details on the disturbing case.
Hollywood Director Charged With Child Sex Abuse After Casting Couch Scheme
The #MeToo movement finally shed light on the predatory behavior of Hollywood bigwigs. Several actresses came forward to the New York Times with accusations that movie producer Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted them and other misconduct. But a shocking arrest revealed that directors with less pull in Hollywood can also be predators.
Harvey Weinstein targeted up-and-coming actresses of legal age. Another Hollywood director and producer was allegedly targeting underage girls. Shane Ryan Gledhill, known professionally as Shane Ryan-Reid, is an actor, producer, and director of low-budget movies. The 46-year-old from Lompoc, California, was arrested on August 3, 2026, after a five-year investigation. He was initially arrested on 15 counts related to child sex abuse and exploitation. Those counts have since increased to 24.
Under the guise of Shane Ryan-Reid, the director allegedly contacted underage victims through social media, promising them roles in his movies. According to KTLA 5, the charges included “child molestation, rape, forcible sexual assault, contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, and possession of child sexual abuse material”
His IMDb Profile Has Creepy Foreshadowing
The police began investigating Shane Ryan Gledhill in 2021 when a 17-year-old girl reported him for “inappropriate conduct” when she was 15. The investigation led to the discovery of two more victims. The police took thousands of digital files from the director’s home in 2022. Whatever the police found on the files was disturbing and illegal.
Shane Ryan Gledhill has around 150 films to his credit as an actor, director, or producer. The description on his IMDb page of how he came into directing is beyond creepy. “At the age of 14 he decided to delve into dramas and movies about troubled kids. Shane directed his own films simply as a means for being able to act and write,” the biography said.
Young girls feature in many of the movies he directed and produced, including “Youth” from a few years ago. He’s currently being held in jail on $500,000 bail.
