A movie with a star-studded cast featuring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson has found another streaming home following its run on Netflix. The disaster movie Deepwater Horizon will begin streaming on a new platform next month.
Deepwater Horizon to stream on Paramount+ next
Deepwater Horizon, featuring Kate Hudson in a supporting role alongside lead actor Mark Wahlberg, will premiere on Paramount+ on July 1, 2026, according to an official press release from the streaming service. The day is slated to see the arrival of multiple new additions, including Gemini Man, Hacksaw Ridge, and the Expendables films. The movie previously streamed on Netflix from March 1, 2026.
Distributed by Lionsgate, Deepwater Horizon first screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2016. It then arrived in theaters a few weeks later, on September 30.
The biographical disaster feature adapts “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hours,” a December 2010 New York Times article written by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul. It chronicles the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The devastating event took place on April 20, 2010, and resulted in the deaths of 11 workers.
The film underperformed at the box office, making only roughly $121 million against its estimated $110 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).
However, it garnered primarily positive critical reception, which is reflected in its scores on review aggregators. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds an 82% “certified fresh” critical rating and a matching audience score. Meanwhile, Metacritic has given it a “generally favorable” Metascore of 68 and a user score of 7.3.
Peter Berg, known for movies like Lone Survivor and Patriots Day, directed the film. Meanwhile, Matthew Michael Carnahan and Matthew Sand co-wrote the script, with the latter also having written the story.
Apart from Hudson and Wahlberg, the movie stars Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, John Malkovich, and Dylan O’Brien, among others.
