Marvel’s monster corner may not be finished just yet.
While walking the red carpet for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, director and composer Michael Giacchino offered an encouraging update for fans hoping to see a sequel to Marvel Studios’ acclaimed horror special Werewolf by Night.
When asked about the possibility of another installment, Giacchino made it clear he’s just as eager as fans are.
“You know what? So do I. I do too. Come on, people, rise up. Let’s go. Rise up. Let’s do it,” he told ScreenRant.
More importantly, he confirmed that conversations are happening behind the scenes.
“We’re talking about it,” Giacchino revealed. “Everything takes forever to do. There’s a lot of planning that has to happen. Everything has to fit in a particular place at a particular time. So, you know, nothing moves as fast as we’d like it to.”
While he stopped short of announcing anything official, the filmmaker remains optimistic that Marvel’s black-and-white creature feature will eventually get another chapter.
“But, you know, I hope one day that you will be sitting there watching another Werewolf by Night. That’s my hope.”
Released in 2022, Werewolf by Night marked Michael Giacchino’s directorial debut and quickly became one of Marvel Studios’ most celebrated projects. Shot in stylish black and white and heavily inspired by Universal’s classic monster movies, the special introduced Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell alongside Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone and Harriet Sansom Harris as Verussa Bloodstone.
In the special: “On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerges from the shadows and gathers at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic–a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.”
