Ozzy Osbourne Reacts to Chance at Second Rock Hall Induction

    Date:

Ozzy Osbourne is already a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer as a member of Black Sabbath, and now has a chance to be inducted again as a solo artist. The metal icon says he’s “deeply honored” to be nominated for the  Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.

Following the announcement of the 2024 nominees on Saturday morning (February 10th), Ozzy took to Instagram to express his gratitude:

“I’m deeply honored to receive this news from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”

Ozzy was first inducted in 2006 along with fellow founding Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Although he’s been eligible as a solo act for nearly 20 years, this year marks the first time he’s been nominated as an individual artist.

The Prince of Darkness has a chance to join two-time honorees such as Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Dave Grohl, Jimmy Page, Tina Turner and others, if he’s revealed as one of the 2024 inductees in April. Eric Clapton is the only artist to be inducted three times — for The Yardbirds, Cream, and his solo work.

Among the other 2024 nominees are Jane’s Addiction, Foreigner, Mariah Carey, Oasis, Cher, Peter Frampton, and more. Following the reveal of the Class of 2024 in April, a ceremony will take place in the fall.

Ozzy’s response to his Rock Hall nomination stands in sharp contrast to his reaction to Kanye West apparently using a live version of “Iron Man” without his permission. On Friday, the metal legend blasted the rapper, stating, “Kanye West asked permission to sample a section of a 1983 live performance of ‘Iron Man’ from the US Festival without vocals & was refused permission because he is an antisemite and has caused untold heartache to many. He went ahead and used the sample anyway at his album listening party last night. I want no association with this man!”
