“This year he REALLY IS coming to town!” Studiocanal UK has revealed a new trailer for Santa Claus: The Movie, to promote their 4K re-release. “We’re delighted to announce that a magical new 4k restoration of the perennial Christmas Classic, Santa Claus: The Movie, from director Jeannot Szwarc will return to cinemas this festive period” starting in late November. The film originally opened in 1985 for the holidays and became a favorite worldwide, though more commonly in the UK than the US. It’s not the same as The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, or many of the other animated classics. Santa Claus: The Movie stars David Huddleston as Santa, Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, Judy Cornwell, Jeffrey Kramer, and many others. The legend of Santa Claus is put in jeopardy when an unscrupulous toy manufacturer attempts to take over Christmas. This is definitely a good one to catch up with and show the kids (or grandkids) if you’ve never seen it before. 🎅🏼🎄 Though oddly no US re-release set this year, as far as we know. Enjoy it anyway.

Santa Claus: The Movie tells the full story of how a common woodcutter (David Huddleston) becomes the legendary Father Christmas. With a fantastical toy workshop run by elves and a herd of flying reindeer, Santa Claus has vowed to ensure that all good children are rewarded at Christmas. But the holiday season soon comes under grave threat when a rebellious but naïve elf called Patch (Dudley Moore) runs away to modern day New York. Lost in a world he doesn’t understand, Patch finds himself being exploited by a villainous toy manufacturer (John Lithgow). Could this be the end of Christmas or will the festive spirit prevail? Santa Claus: The Movie is directed by the French producer / filmmaker Jeannot Szwarc, made right after directing Enigma and Supergirl previously. The screenplay is written by David Newman; from a story by David Newman and Leslie Newman. The movie originally opened in the US & UK in theaters in the fall of 1985. StudioCanal will re-release Santa Claus: The Movie in UK cinemas on November 24th, 2023.
