Fans of Stranger Things will soon see the series wrap up as the year comes to an end. Meanwhile, the series creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, were attached to another big project, connected to an icon of horror media. However, the Duffer Brothers recently shared an unfortunate update with fans.
Stranger Things Will Finish Its Fifth Season On New Year’s Eve 2025
Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in 2016. The story, which takes place in the 1980s, revolves around the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. Supernatural events start to take place in the area, including a gateway opening up between the Earth and the Upside Down, an alternate dimension.
Recently, Netflix released the show’s fifth season in three parts, throughout November and December 2025. The final part is expected to debut on December 31, 2025.

As fans know, Stranger Things‘ fifth season was confirmed to be its last. As noted by CBR, back in 2022, it was confirmed that the series creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer Brothers, were attached to another project connected to a horror legend.
The two were working on an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Talisman. This 1984 novel, worked on by King with Peter Straub, revolves around a twelve-year-old, Jack Sawyer, and his quest to find the titular artifact to save his mother. The project was going to be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Paramount Television Studios.
Speaking with the outlet, Ross shared, “Sadly, Talisman is no longer at Netflix, so we’re not involved.” Matt added, “I remember I was, I think it was probably naive of us to think we could break The Talisman.”
Despite The Update, There Is Still Some Good News For Fans Of Stephen King’s Works
As Ross continued, “When I interned, when I was really, you know, back in college at Kennedy Marshall, I remember reading, I think it was a movie script for Talisman.”
Ross continued, “So it’s been in development forever, so I’m sorry that we were not the ones to break the curse.” Matt also noted, “It will be whoever does it and cracks it.”

At this time, Screen Rant described the adaptation as being in “development hell,” suggesting it might resume production someday. In fact, the news comes out after a number of recent adaptations of King’s works, including The Monkey, The Institute, The Long Walk, The Running Man, and IT: Welcome to Derry. However, it was noted that it could still take years.
That said, the outlet shared good news for King fans. He is reportedly working on a third Talisman novel. However, there is no release date as of yet. Straub passed away in 2022, but he allegedly shared an idea for a third installment.
