Gayle King has been the topic of rumors for months. Multiple outlets reported in October that her time with CBS News would come to an end when her contract expired in May 2026.
Despite her future with the network in doubt, she surprisingly took part in a staff meeting with CBS News head Bari Weiss. During the meeting, the CBS Mornings host took aim at her colleagues, saying she was “sick” of their gossip. Keep reading for more details on Gayle King’s harsh words for her co-workers.
CBS News Head Bari Weiss Gives ‘Straight Talk’ To Staffers
CBS underwent huge changes in late 2025 after its parent company, Paramount Global, merged with Skydance Media. One of those changes was bringing on conservative journalist Bari Weiss as the new editor-in-chief of the network’s news division.

The move was the first stage in the network’s desire to reinvent itself amid failing ratings. Tony Dokoupil left CBS Mornings to anchor the CBS Nightly News. The change in anchors was supposed to help push CBS ahead of NBC and ABC in the ratings. It hasn’t so far. Tony Dokoupil and CBS have dominated headlines for weeks, but not in a good way.
Bari Weiss held a staff meeting at the CBS building in New York City. She gave staffers a candid pep talk and shared her vision for the future of the news division. “I’m not going to stand up here today and ask for your trust. I’m going to earn it, just like we have to do with our viewers,” she said. “What I can give you is what I’ve always tried to give my readers as a journalist: transparency, clarity, straight talk.”
The “straight talk” included telling staffers they can get on board or leave, their choice. Gayle King also spoke to her co-workers and what she had to say reportedly left them shocked.

Gayle King Calls Out Colleagues, ‘Sick’ Of Their Gossip
News broke in October that Gayle King was allegedly losing her job on the morning program when her contract was up for renewal in May. But instead of taking Bari Weiss to task during the staff meeting, Gayle King backed up her boss.
“If you don’t want to be here, if this is not the place, it’s OK,” the CBS Mornings host said. According to The Independent, Gayle King added, “But for the rest of us who would like to be here, who’d like to do a good job and figure things out along the way, this is a very bumpy time for all of us.”

Gayle King’s future at the network has been a hot topic of conversation in the press. She spoke directly to the colleagues who had been spreading gossip. “I also want to say to the leakers in the building… I would like to think that we can have conversations, and that we could talk candidly with each other, and it’s not going to friggin be in the paper. I am so sick of that!”
Bari Weiss subtly addressed Gayle King’s future with the network in the staff meeting, hinting that she’s staying with CBS News in some way.
