Matthew McConaughey Auditioned For The Lead Role In Titanic
Popular actor Matthew McConaughey had the opportunity to audition for the lead role of Jack Dawson in the hit movie Titanic. It was recently revealed that the Hollywood star lost out on the lead role of Jack, after refusing famous director James Cameron. McConaughey failed his audition when he reportedly failed to land the character’s accent.

In Titanic producer Jon Landau’s posthumous book, “The Bigger Picture,” it is revealed that Matthew McConaughey sank his audition. Landau shared that production brought Matthew in to do a chemistry test with lead actress Kate Winslet. Jon’s book says,
“Kate was taken with Matthew, his presence and charm. Matthew did the scene with the drawl.”
In addition, Jon Lansau wrote that Titanic director James Cameron wasn’t a fan of Matthew McConaughey’s famous southern drawl. Reportedly, Cameron told him,” That’s great,” then added, “Now let’s try it a different way.” The character Matthew was trying out for, Jack Dawson, is from Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Matthew McConaughey Tanked Chance At Jack Dawson Role
Matthew McConaughey missed out on the opportunity to play the lead male character in Titanic when he refused to try a different accent for director James Cameron. Jon Lansau wrote in his book “The Bigger Picture” that McConaughey flat-out refused to redo his accent in his audition for a role in Titanic. Matthew reportedly told Cameron, “No. That was pretty good. Thanks.” In addition, refusal cost the Hollywood star the lead role in an iconic movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio was eventually cast as Jack Dawson in the award-winning film Titanic. DiCaprio worked opposite Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater. The film has won numerous awards since it was released in 1997. Leonardo also nearly knocked himself out of the role when Director James Cameron asked him to read lines.
Leonardo DiCaprio Told James Cameron, “Oh, I don’t read.” The famous director let Leo know that if he didn’t read lines, he would not be getting a part. The Hollywood star agreed to run through the line, wowing leading actress Kate Winslet. James Cameron said, “Kate just lit up … dark clouds had opened up and a ray of sun came down and lit up Jack. I’m like, ‘Alright, he’s the guy.’” Thus, DiCaprio landed his role as Jack Dawson. It pays to do what the director asks. Especially on as big as James Cameron.
