10 Best TV Shows of 2024 — Critic’s Picks

What a TV year it was! In compiling a yearly Top 10 list, it’s impossible to include all of the shows that made a lasting impression, and for 2024, with a very few exceptions, I leaned into the shows that brought me the most joy, whether an epic miniseries (Shōgun) or a small gem like HBO’s Somebody Somewhere. The list includes a remake, a reboot (though more of a reinvention), a romcom, and the year’s biggest sports event.

The list of honorable mentions includes network standard-bearers Abbott Elementary and Ghosts among comedies, The Bear among shows that insist they’re a comedy, solid newcomers like High Potential and Brilliant Minds, powerful seasons of Industry and True Detective (the chilling Night Country), the final season of Evil, the surprise of The Penguin, and the year’s best docudrama, Mr Bates vs the Post Office on PBS.
