This one has to be the utmost birthday gift that any country singer could ever possibly get. The dad went on Instagram and, contained in his joy, shared the surprise: A brand-new song written for Billy Ray Cyrus by Miley Cyrus, and the band of his dreams, Fleetwood Mac, performing on it.

The clip shows Billy Ray Cyrus, emotionally overwhelmed, smiling and laughing while watching and listening to “Secrets.” The floating poetic lyrics in the video went something like, “I want to keep your secrets like sunlight in the shadows like footsteps in the grass I want to never break my promise like a songbird in the silence like stones against the land.” Heavy. Deep down lyrics. The kind that hits heavy on your chest.
Billy Ray sums it all up in the caption: “For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called Secrets and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile ❤️”
FLEETWOOD MAC. For a song written for HIM! Forget birthday give-and-take; this is a legendary flex. It’s basically “hey dad, I know you’re a musician and everything but I got Stevie Nicks and the crew to back me up on your birthday track.” Crazy talk.
Comments began erupting. Fans were going practically bonkers over this gift’s sheer magnitude. One user stated bluntly, “Song sounds amazing. Wow she’s always been more talented than you honestly. Literally love her voice and everything she’s about 😂” Ouch. Yet… kind of true? Miley’s vocal range and artistic development have been a phenomenon to watch, and it just gives proof that she operates on a whole different level.
However, not all the comments on Miley are complementary. The post also sparked a lot of talks on Billy Ray. Someone said, “So odd seeing him smile, he’s always so serious.” And an equally valid observation too. An almost stoic, pained expression is often plastered on the man’s face, and finally seeing him genuinely laugh and look happy was such a joy for many.
And then there were the less serious remarks. “Happy Birthday but please ditch the ponytails,” one fan pleaded. Another appeared utterly perplexed by the entire vibe, commenting, “😂😂😂 Bro.. wtf did I just watch?” Mood. Sometimes the Cyrus clan just operates on a wavelength the rest of us can’t quite tune into yet.
The most heartfelt comments, however, were made about the apparent healing between father and daughter. “Talented daughter .. hopefully you mend fences,” said one person, alluding to prior rumors about a strained relationship. Another simply chimed in: “Happy birthday, Billy! It’s good to have you back ❤️” This gift feels like so much more than just a song. It looks like an olive branch. A musical peace treaty. A way of saying “I love you” in the language they both best understand.
And then, of course, the Miley fanboys came roaring in: “OMG MILEY CYRUS NEW SONGGGGG” bellowed one user into the void before a full release even existed. Because, let’s be honest-if Fleetwood Mac is on it, this isn’t just some private family demo. This has to see the light of day for the rest of us, right?
Elizabeth Hurley popped in to bless him with Happy Birthday and what a gorgeous video to a beautiful song by your beautiful daughter ❤️❤️❤️ Celebrity Instagram is crazy.
One fan literally described the feeling Billy Ray himself seemed to be feeling, responding to another fan who asked why he was just laughing: “The song is evoking that joy and smiles sometimes thru tears of happiness thing. My favorite emotion.” That is exactly it. That overwhelming can’t-believe-this-is-happening-pure-joy-laugh. The kind you can’t fake.

Among the silver spoon and soap operas, paid promotions, and cliched celebrity birthday posts, this felt real. An unmitigated expression of gratitude by a partner of immense access and talent for her dad. A dad proud enough to cuff a raw clip of his response-stirred from his own accord- to display to the world. So beautiful. And just for the record, a new Miley Cyrus song with Fleetwood Mac backing is an awesome thing for finally everyone including Billy Ray to deserve. What a birthday!
