Lydia Night, former frontwoman of The Regrettes, has released her debut solo single “Pity Party.” Watch the song’s music video, directed by Night and Ramisha Sattar, below.
“Pity Party” was produced by Alexis Kesselman, also known as Idarose, who has previously worked with Suki Waterhouse and helmed most of the writing and production on the soundtrack for Smile 2. Night revealed in press materials that this was the first time she had ever worked with a female producer, noting that it was “game-changing.” Kesselman revealed in a video that she produced Night’s forthcoming debut album.
“Stepping outside of the band on my own was spooky and felt like a huge risk but one that I was ready to make,” Night said. “I think there is a lot of humor and absurdity in the way we deal with dark feelings and for me, part of self-acceptance involves embracing the mess and laughing at it. Life often feels like a performance, so why not make a show of it and own the spectacle?”

And Night does indeed own her flaws in the track’s music video, which features her in clown attire, causing a scene at the grocery store, her local diner, and the laundromat. “Pity Party” ruminates on self-destructive habits and lays out Night’s not so flattering traits in humorous fashion (“It’s crazy how I almost died this year and now I’m shotgunning my very first beer,” she sings in the second verse). The video ends with a license plate labeled “The Hearse” which may be a teaser for her debut album’s name, or another song coming in the future.
The Regrettes disbanded in 2023 to pursue individual endeavors, and played their final show in December 2023 in Los Angeles, CA. After listening to “Pity Party,” revisit our Track By Track interview with The Regrettes on their final album Further Joy.
