Art Alexakis chats with Kyle Meredith about Everclear’s new live album Live at The Whiskey A Go Go, not having interest in writing another full-length record, and more.
The Everclear frontman talks about his process for approaching lyrics, as well as why he’s done with making albums for the time being. “[They] asked me if I want to do an original album, and I said, ‘Absolutely not.’ I’m done,” he explains. “I’ve done 11 albums with Everclear, two with the band before it, one before that — done. Making a whole album doesn’t sound like fun.”

He then touches on how songs from his back catalog make him feel now, such as “Local God” (written for Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet), “Nervous and Weird,” and “Fire Maple Song.”
On the topic of Live at The New Whiskey A Go Go, he explains how the package also includes two new studio cuts at the end and having his daughter be featured in the music video for “Sing Away.” “I think she killed it and I think she was great. Everybody was blown away by her chops,” Alexakis says. “She really likes musicals and I don’t like musicals but she does.”
