Latonya Pottain, who gained recognition from her appearance on Season 11 of My 600-Lb. Life, has died at the age of 40, the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed. She passed away on May 17 at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. A final autopsy is still pending. However, early reports indicate congestive heart failure as the likely cause of death, with the manner ruled natural.

Pottain’s story was featured on the TLC show, which follows individuals facing extreme obesity as they undergo weight loss journeys through diet and surgery. She opened up about her difficult childhood, including the loss of her mother at age 12 and her father leaving the family soon after. Raised by her eldest sister until she was 15, she later moved out on her own with support from her father.

Her goal on the show was to lose weight so she could walk down the aisle and marry her fiancé, Daune. Unfortunately, she revealed that her brother’s death shortly before filming made it harder for her to shed pounds. In 2023, she told the Shreveport Times she was dieting and working with a trainer while planning to move closer to family for support and weight loss surgery.

By February 2025, Pottain’s health had worsened significantly. She created a GoFundMe explaining that she had been bedridden since June 2024, weighing nearly 740 pounds at her heaviest. She wrote, “After the show aired, I experienced overwhelming backlash, which sent me into a deep depression. My mental health suffered, and I became fearful of undergoing weight loss surgery.” She eventually returned to Louisiana as her health deteriorated further.
