Star Wars Defends Moses Ingram Following Racist Backlash

Following the premiere of Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi last week, the official Star Wars social media account has taken to condemning any racism that actress Moses Ingram has received.

A new tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account fought back on the recent backlash that Ingram has faced since appearing in Obi-Wan as Reva, the Third Sister, and a member of the Inquisitors, who are hunting down Obi-Wan and the remaining Jedi across the galaxy. The tweet welcomes Ingram into the Star Wars family before noting just how many species exist in the world of Star Wars and reminding fans not be racist.

The tweets come following the revelation from Ingram herself that she has been the unfortunate recipient of continuous backlash since appearing in the series last week.

“Long story short, there are hundreds of those. Hundreds,” Ingram said in an Instagram video that followed up her showing a ton of screenshotted messages that were filled with racist language. “I also see those of you out there who put on a cape for me and that really does mean the world to me because there’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. So I question my purposes even being here in front of you saying that this is happening.”

Despite receiving the hate online, Ingram seems to be choosing to focus more on the praise that her character has received now, with many fans loving her introduction into the series and excited to see where things head in the new series.
