Jon Favreau, the creator of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, recently spoke on the prospect of continuing the series following the release of the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, which he is directing.
The Mandalorian has aired for three seasons on Disney+ between November 12, 2019, and April 19, 2023. Its massive success has led to several other TV projects, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew. The Mandalorian & Grogu is slated to take the story forward following the conclusion of The Mandalorian.
Jon Favreau addresses The Mandalorian series’ future after Grogu movie
Jon Favreau made it clear that he’s currently focusing on The Mandalorian & Grogu when asked if The Mandalorian as a show was finished during a recent interview with Collider. He was speaking to the outlet on the red carpet at Star Wars Celebration 2025, held in Japan.
“Right now, I’m focusing on the feature because we still have another year of the story,” the filmmaker said. “You discover so much as you edit a film and put it together with visual effects. Right now we’re really locked in on the big screen story that’s coming.”
This likely means the viewers might have to wait for some time to find out whether there will be a Season 4 of The Mandalorian, if it ever happens at all. Back in February 2024, it was reported that the fourth season of The Mandalorian was in development.
However, as of now, it’s unclear whether there will be a fourth season. It appears that the studio has firmly moved to the cinematic medium to continue this particular branch of the Star Wars franchise, leaving the prospects of a Season 4 rather uncertain.
The Mandalorian & Grogu premieres in US theaters on May 22, 2026.
