John DiMaggio is officially set to return to Futurama revival after a lengthy standoff between himself and Disney. However, the actor recently revealed that he ended up not getting the desired pay raise he wanted.
“People are like, ‘I’m so glad you got more money!’ I didn’t get more money,” DiMaggio recently said during an appearance at Phoenix Fan Fusion (via SlashFilm). “But what I did get was a lot of respect, and a lot of head nods from people who are like, ‘Yo bro, I see you and thank you. Trying to get money out of Disney is like trying to get blood from a stone — you ain’t gonna get it!”
When the Futurama revival was officially announced, many fans were upset to see that DiMaggio was not initially not returning to the series amidst a dispute between his pay. DiMaggio likened the situation to both Disney and Hulu and himself having each other in a vice grip.
“But listen, this was the best thing about that fight: I had Disney, Hulu, I was holding on to their collective testicles so hard that they couldn’t, y’know, there was nowhere for them to go,” DiMaggio said. “But there was also nowhere for me to go, and who wants to hold on to those for that long?”
The Futurama revival has been picked up for 20 new episodes which will air in 2023 with production expected to begin soon. The original seasons of the series are available to stream now on Hulu. The show is produced by 20th Television and executive produced by Groening and Cohen. Rough Draft Studios handles animation.
