They’ve been teasing him for months, and now he’s finally here: Absolute Scarecrow, set to make his horrific debut in Absolute Batman #19.
Writer Scott Snyder previously showed an early design during a Whatot signing, and artist Nick Dragotta offered a glimpse with his cover for Absolute Batman #19. Now, fans are getting the first full look at the new Scarecrow… and he’s pure nightmare fuel.
Looking like something straight out of Children of the Corn, Scarecrow appears as a waking nightmare on this variant cover for Absolute Batman #19. His face is twisted into a grotesque mask, with button eyes stitched shut, lips crudely sewn together, and deep scars carved across his skin – creating a design that leans heavily into pure horror.
The cover variant comes in two versions: a trade dress edition and a virgin glow-in-the-dark edition, the latter limited to just 800 copies. It will sell out, especially if it’s as hot as this Joker cover that sold for $590.
What makes this cover even more special is that it was drawn by Rafa Sandoval, the artist responsible for the incredible Absolute Superman series!
The variants go on sale Wednesday, March 11 at 5 p.m. ET (9 p.m. UK time) via 7ATE9 Comics, with the trade dress edition limited to 2,000 copies priced at £14.95, and a virgin glow-in-the-dark edition limited to 800 copies priced at £22.50.
Fans hoping to grab this cover will have to brace for steep international shipping, as it’s being released outside the United States.
For those unfamiliar, comics superstar Scott Snyder, teaming with brilliant artist Nick Dragotta, puts a radical spin on Batman, imagining the Dark Knight stripped of the advantages that defined the original version. Here, Bruce Wayne is a monstrous-sized construction worker who goes to ultraviolent extremes to take down Akira-level villains in Gotham City. The twist? In Absolute Batman, Joker is the billionaire… and he’s creating monsters.
Monsters like Scarecrow. Look…
