On The Edge (2022) A Soska Sisters Film Reviewed ⋆ Horror Facts

What do you get when you take a poorly functioning middle-aged man and have him spend the night with a dominatrix? You get On The Edge.

We recently published a post in which we discuss the new movie that the Soska Sisters have produced, and you can find it here. On the Edge is a horror film about torture that has an erotica-themed plot following for the majority of On the Edge. This theme follows throughout the majority of the film, it may be hard for some to engage the film due to some of the sensitive topics on display in the Soska Sisters latest film.

In addition to co-writing, co-directing, and co-producing the film On the Edge, sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska both star as leading characters in the movie. In addition to Aramis Sartorio and Ola Dada, Andrea Jin, and the Finn-Morris sisters Brianna and Alanna, the film also stars Ivan Decker, Mackenzie Gray, and Sophie Buddle. The Soskas worked as producers on this production alongside other individuals such as Glenn Burchnall of Cathasaigh Productions, Luna Wolf of Disturbia Films, and Kevvy of GothMamba Productions.

On The Edge

It’s hard to put into words the cruelty Peter (Aramis Sartorio) endures from Mistress Satana played by Jen Soska during On The Edge, which includes humiliation, degradation, and general abuse, but suffice it to say that, for the first hour at least, it’s not unlike to seeing female-dominated adult flicks.

The dominatrix has plans for Peter and will go to any lengths to achieve her aim, and Peter is subjected to torture from the very beginning of the film.

After peter is subjected to a variety of mental and sexual torments for the better part of an hour, the movie finally begins to show him experiencing flashbacks of other times in his life, including a swing set in a park and a teddy bear, among other things. These flashbacks are key to figuring out the film even though you may dread what you are now thinking.

After the first hour of the movie, there was a significant shift in the narrative; it went from being about physical abuse to being about a psychedelic experience because Mistress Satana had poisoned his drink, which had been provided as a prize for withstanding the dominance. She begins to speak in a demonic voice, letting Peter know that she is much more than what he hired her to be while also engaging in sacrilegious conversation with the guy.

If I continue, I will completely ruin the movie for you by giving away the storyline and the next events in the movie, so I will stop talking about it here. There are a few things I would want to say about the movie, the majority of them concern the overall quality of the movie.

Though I enjoy films like “Hostel” and “some of the corny pseudo sexual ones from the 1980s and 1990s,” I have never seen anything quite like this one. It was intense to watch, but I also wanted to see how it all played out in the end, and it had a very surprising meaning and storyline by the time the film concluded, which really would get you thinking a million different ways.

To the best of my knowledge, the motion picture was not marketed as a B movie, and it most likely could have been at least an A- or at worst a B++ film if not for some sound difficulties; it seemed as though the microphones used to film were misplaced, giving the whole thing a very hard to hear audio, it was hollow, and it felt like it feels when someone is talking to you on a speaker phone. At the absolute least, I would have appreciated it if they had the audio fixed with software.

I thought the movie was a story of redemption in the end, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes the whole “Dominatrix” thing to check out this one. The movie was not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it was very different from other movies. And different is actually a good thing something new something fresh. Possibly, it seems, there is a positive role for perverse entertainment in the functioning of a successful democracy.

FrightFest Halloween 2022 was the venue for the international debut of On The Edge (2022), and more recently, the film was shown at Monster Fest in Melbourne.

I am not sure when the movie will be available for rental or purchase via video-on-demand or in physical form, but as soon as it is, I will make sure to let you know about it.
