Taylor Swift released the music video for her song “Opalite,” the second video from her recent album TLOS, Friday morning. And while many fans seem excited about the new drop, one in particular vocalized their frustration with Tay Tay’s creative choices.
Cue in Elmo, the 3.5-year-old little red monster who lives on Sesame Street and has beef with rocks, specifically with one named Rocco.
If you’re not familiar with this long-time feud, Elmo doesn’t believe his friend Zoe’s pet rock, Rocco, is real, no matter how much she claims it to be true. To give a little bit of backstory, Rocco has apparently kept a cookie that Elmo wanted, interrupted his friend’s date with Amelia Dimoldenberg, and told Elmo that he was taking too long to say the number of the day.
As you can tell, rocks are a trigger for the little guy, so when Taylor put one in her “Opalite” music video, Elmo was not having it.
Throughout the video, you see Taylor swinging with the rock on a playground, playing with the rock in her home, and drinking with the rock at a bar. The box it came in even says, “My best friend!”
The Sesame Street team even tried to protect Elmo from seeing the music video on Twitter (now known as X): “No one show this to Elmo.”
However, literally one minute later, Elmo caught wind of what his friend Taylor did. “Ms. Taylor Swift…you have got to be kidding Elmo,” he wrote.
Luckily, fans are showing support: “She did you dirty Elmo,” one person said.
“Rocco in a Taylor Swift music video before Elmo just feels wrong!”
After a couple of hours, Elmo reluctantly added another post on Twitter.
Taylor has not commented on the matter, but if she does, you better believe we will add it here.
Anyways, tell us your thoughts about this “Bad Blood” in the comments below.
