Reports have come out that a contestant from MasterChef has passed away. The star was 42 years old at the time of their death. A GoFundMe campaign has also been started to help the star’s family during this time.
Details Were Shared About The MasterChef’s Passing In An Online Obituary
MasterChef is an American series based on the British series of the same name. The series premiered on Fox back in 2017.
Taking place at a soundstage in Los Angeles, California, the series features various amateur and home chefs competing to earn the eponymous title of “MasterChef.” The series has featured various judges over the years, including Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, Aarón Sánchez, Tiffany Derry, and Joe Bastianich.

It was recently announced that Matt Gagnon, a Connecticut native who appeared on the show’s 11th season, has passed away. He was 42 years old at the time of his death.
According to an online obituary, Gagnon “passed away unexpectedly” on December 15. At this time, no cause of death has been listed.
Gagnon is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and two children, Haylee and Mason. He is also survived by his parents, brother, brother-in-law, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
At the time of his death, Gagnon was reportedly working at a fire protection company. His obituary also showcased his love of his family as well as his love of cooking.
As it read, “Most important in Matthew’s life were his children. He always brought fun into their lives and enjoyed camping in the backyard with them every summer as well as playing Chutes and Ladders with Haylee and Legos with Mason. He loved to cook at home with them and his homemade raviolis were their favorite.”
During his time on the show, Gagnon placed 12th in his season. He was cut after overcooking filet mignon.
A GoFundMe Campaign Was Also Set Up To Help Matt Gagnon’s Family
After his elimination, Gagnon shared, “This whole journey has been kind of crazy. I was definitely hoping that there would be a small chance that I would stay. But I just didn’t execute what I had in front of me today. I knew it wasn’t up to their standards.”
“I have a lot to learn. But I think my kids are gonna be incredibly proud of me for making it this far. I’m gonna keep cooking and keep trying to hone my skills and move forward.”
Since his passing, a GoFundMe campaign has also been established to help his family. As campaign organizer Rich Murphy shared, “Matt’s passing has left his wife and two young children facing not only heartbreak, but also the challenge of covering funeral expenses and meeting their immediate and future needs. We are coming together to support his family during this difficult time.”
“Please consider contributing to help honor Matt’s memory and provide comfort and assistance to his loved ones. Your support will make a meaningful difference.”
